My Dad used to say the Liberals are paler version of the Tories. An examination of the Lib Dems manifesto reveals my Dad’s maxim still holds true today.
I know some people think that Nick Clegg did well in the leadership debate, given his equal billing with Gordon Brown and David Cameron, but his policies have yet to come under any real scrutiny.
I know that some progressives vote for the Lib Dems in the mistaken belief that they are an agent of progressive change. Given the reactionary policies the Lib Dems have pursued since they assumed control of Derby City Council, we know how wrong that assumption really is. The Lib Dems reactionary streak is abundantly clear in their manifesto.
The Lib Dems say they want to cut Tax Credits, scrap Child Trust Funds and slash Train to Gain, which has been used by 175, 000 employers and enabled over 1.5 million employees to begin learning programmes and over a million people to achieve a qualification.
